mighty fine EP!
i have truly loved these guys for years and this was the EP that first introduced them to me. fresh, poignant and really brings the indie/folk to another level. i enjoy listening to this particular EP in the evenings, when I need to unwind from a hard day or work or school. great for putting on when friends come over for a few beers and cards. love, love, love it.
below i'll review each song individually!
This song has a great synth/guitar intro that eventually fades off into a stripped down guitar/vocal configuration… really like the way the tune builds up. especially enjoy the way that they turn folk on its head here while still maintaining the folkiness or integrity of the music. really love the trumpet bridge parts and the way the drums get more intense throughout the song. especially like their use of the timpani. all-in-all- a fascinating tune with a revolutionary pop/folk vibe about it. very catchy and will probably be stuck in your head for days. hard to stop listening!!
Love the way this song captures the dynamic between these two. It's a cute song… Prefer the Westerlund edition (which I've also reviewed), but this one is definitely unique and I love it for what it is. Probably my least favourite track on the EP, but i have friends for whom it is their favourite. so opinions are opinions.
this is probably my favourite track on the EP… it describes C and S's first summer together and it really has a lot of warmth and depth to it. I love the crisp, stripped down, minimalistic vibe and the way the vocals are right out front, along with a delicately finger picked acoustic guitar. this one is definitely the most timeless sounding track on the entire EP. great, great song.
OK, long review, but wanted to be thorough.. Highly recommend for anyone that loves indie bands but especially folk with a pop twist… This band has IT ALL!
Love you flora cash, and if you read this… keep doing what you do best!
